Cal Ripken Post-Season Baseball Tournament
1. RAMMS has retained its association with Cal Ripken Baseball
(8 to 12 year olds). This means that RAMMS will enter "eight and under" (8U), "nine and
under" (9U), "ten and under" (10U), "eleven and under" (11U), and
"twelve and under" (12U) teams in the Cal Ripken State Tournaments.
Cal Ripken play is competitive, not recreational. Three to five weeks
of practice precedes the tournaments.
2. Please note that the dates and locations for the Cal
Ripken State Tournaments change each year. Historically the
tournaments have been held during the last few weeks of June and the
Regional Tournaments are held in mid-July.
3. Player Selection. Ranch League (8U), American League (9U & 10U) and National
League (11U & 12U) Coaches nominate up to four players from their
respective teams. Players attend a tryout and are ranked by their respective
league's coaches. American League and National League Commissioners compile
coaches' statistical rankings of players from tryouts. Rankings are confidential. Players
ranked 1-9 are on the team. Cal Ripken managers may randomly select additional
players according to the formula approved by RAMMS board (1/11/06).
4. Player Participation Rule. A player shall, at a minimum, over
the course of the tournament, play an average of one inning
in the field and one at bat per game.
5. Although eligibility for the regular season leagues are largely
determined by a player’s grade level, eligibility for the Cal
Ripken Baseball State Tournament teams is restricted by age.
To be eligible for a tournament team, a player must: (a) be
“league age” appropriate, and (b) have played in at least half
of the regular season games for that Charter. “League age”
for baseball is determined by the age the player will be on
April 30 (e.g., a player who is eleven years old on April
30, 2008 is not eligible for the 10U tournament team).
